Kirie (2024)

This artwork depicts a salaryman seated in his office chair, holding a paper cutter in one hand. The scene is quiet yet charged, capturing a moment of stillness within the structured, high-pressure rhythm of corporate life. The photographic surface has been meticulously hand-cut using the traditional Japanese kirie technique — transforming the image into a sculptural object.

Inspired by the concept of shinrin-yoku, a Japanese practice that involves immersing oneself in nature, particularly in forests, for the purpose of improving one's physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Part of the Ganbatte series. Shot in Tokyo, Japan.
